Wildflowers
Some of the many wildflowers you may be lucky enough to spot in the Perenjori district include carpets of Everlastings, unique and distinctive Wreath Flower as well as the bright orange Wild Pomegranate, bright Pink Native Foxgloves, many species of Orchids, Grevillea, Acacia, Purple Darwinia and Dampiera, Thriptomene, Smokebush, Woody Pear, Cassias, Eremophila, Blue Cornflower and Yellow Bells to name but a few! Take your time to pull up and have a wander around the many reserves and areas of native bushland. Don’t forget to utilise our local knowledge – you can always ask at the Perenjori Visitor Centre on Fowler Street (from July to October) for maps and flower locations, they are only too happy to assist. The wreath flower is now flowering at Pindar about 25ks east of Mullewa. On the back Bowgada Rd the wreath flower is growing but not yet flowering.
Remember, each wildflower season is different and we are at the mercy of mother nature. The best way to get the most out of your time in the Shire is to call into the Perenjori Visitor Centre on Fowler Street (from July to October) for maps and seasonal flower locations, they are only too happy to assist.
Beginning in the autumn with various types of beautiful wattle, the flowers flourish until late in the year. Endless vistas of pink, yellow and white Everlastings are most prolific from mid-July to mid-November on road verges and bush country, whilst the unique Leschenaultia Wreath Flower can be found in all its glory in select areas of the shire. For the enthusiasts, Orchids abound and as the Everlastings fade, the natural shrubs come into their own and provide the most exquisite variation and subtle hues of bloom along roads and in nature reserves.
